The little rescue with a big heart

Our primary mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and find loving, permanent homes for homeless dogs, specifically dogs in shelters at-risk of euthanasia and dogs whose owners can no longer care for them. We believe in compassionate rescue when the dog is enduring inhumane living conditions or likely to be deemed less adoptable due to age, health, emotional state, or breed. We ensure that all the dogs we take into our rescue, regardless of individual needs, are cared for with love and compassion for the duration of their lives.

Explore our social media to see the kinds of things we’re up to on the daily. We are constantly engaging with shelters, rescues, trainers, veterinarians, and even people in the community who just need help with their pets. It isn’t always easy, but it keeps us busy helping improve the world in our own little way…one dog at a time!

Four weeks ago, we shared the story of Spike—a sweet, shy 7-year-old who had been quietly languishing at @lbanimalcare for six long months. Confined for over 23 hours a day, the weight of shelter life was wearing him down. He was scared, stressed, and losing hope. He was running out of time, and his life was at risk. He needed out—and he needed it fast.

We put his story out into the world, hoping the right people would see him. And they did. Spike was adopted by a kindhearted couple from Salt Lake City, Utah, who saw past his sadness and fear—and recognized the gentle soul beneath. Spike made it out in time. But getting out is just the beginning.

After so many months in a loud, high-stress environment, transitioning into home life hasn’t been easy for Spike The longer a dog is in the shelter, the harder it can be for them to decompress and adjust. Spike’s new parents are patient, devoted, and full of love—but even with the best intentions, the road to healing can be challenging.

When his adopters reached out for help, we didn’t hesitate. We love Spike, and we want to see him—and his family—thrive. So we called on a professional that we trust.

Our friend @bagnew64 of @thebalanceddogca has agreed to work with Spike and his adopters over the next three months. He’ll guide them, teach them, and help them become the calm, confident leaders Spike needs. Love brought Spike home—but leadership will help him flourish.

Now we’re asking for your help. We’re hoping to raise $1,000 to help cover Spike’s training and support his journey from surviving to flourishing. If you made a pledge for Spike, or if his story moves you, please consider making a tax-deductible donation of any amount to help this sweet boy settle into the life he’s always deserved. Spike, his parents, and all the other humans who love him, would be deeply grateful.

Foster

As a foster-based rescue, our primary need is short and long-term fosters. Fostering costs you nothing; we cover all expenses. Whether you’re a seasoned foster who can handle some of our toughest cases, or a first-timer looking to ease into the process, we want to hear from you.

Adopt

By providing a forever home for a dog in rescue, you're helping to free up a foster home, which allows us to help another dog in need. The dogs in our care are fully vaccinated, spayed or neutered (unless medically waived), microchipped, and receive regular wellness exams, preventative treatment, specialty care as needed. If you’re interested in meeting a K9 Kismet pack member, please fill out the adoption application to begin the process.

donate

As a 100% volunteer-run organization, your tax-deductible donation goes directly to the dogs in our care. It provides funds for everything from life saving surgeries to ID tags. Every dollar has purpose and is put to work for the dogs we serve. Help us say yes to the next dog in need.
