The little rescue with a big heart

Our primary mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and find loving, permanent homes for homeless dogs, specifically dogs in shelters at-risk of euthanasia and dogs whose owners can no longer care for them. We believe in compassionate rescue when the dog is enduring inhumane living conditions or likely to be deemed less adoptable due to age, health, emotional state, or breed. We ensure that all the dogs we take into our rescue, regardless of individual needs, are cared for with love and compassion for the duration of their lives.

As we near the end of the week, we’re asking you to help us put the “Yay” in FriYay by donating a 💲. That might not sound like much, but if enough of you pitch in four quarters, we can refill the coffers for Forever Fosters like Cody.

This little senior was surrendered to City of Long Beach Animal Care Services by his owner at the age of eleven. It was evident from Cody’s appalling condition that he was suffering long before he even arrived at the shelter. Cody’s fur was a matted nightmare and every crevice of his body was covered in fleas. It wasn’t long before we received the alert about this poor boy, and we immediately hatched a plan to bring him into our care.

After an evaluation at the vet, it was determined that Cody was only almost completely blind from double cataracts, his fecal sample came back positive for Giardia, and he had unilateral Cryptorchidism. This is a condition in which one of his testicles never completely descended into his scrotum. Cryptorchidism is common for Yorkies, but the condition is usually found and treated during neuter when they are still puppies. Left untreated, however, Cryptorchidism can cause abdominal pain and lead to agonizing infections. Additionally, his liver doesn’t always function properly, and he suffers from chronic pancreatitis. We monitor and treat both regularly.

He’s very sweet and affectionate, but if people don’t take it very slow with him and respect his space, his behavior can become unpredictable. For that reason, coupled with his ongoing medical care, we opted to make him a forever foster. He’s a lucky boy who gets to live with one of our most seasoned forever fosters, where he enjoys a stable and loving environment.

Clipper-turned-Copper-turned-Cooper is officially home! He may be a man of many names, but all that matters is that he was able to land one solid home. Thanks to the networking efforts of the fine volunteers at Baldwin Park Animal Shelter and our foster partners on The Dank Dog Ranch, Cooper was able to say goodbye to fifteen long months in the shelter system, most of which had him tucked away as “evidence” for a court case. He’s now enjoying the perks of being an indoor pet alongside a retired couple who absolutely adores him and his new six-year-old terrier brother. To sweeten the deal, Cooper doesn’t risk ever running out of smells because he’s now receiving his mail on a six-acre ranch at the end of a private road.

Unfortunately, we don’t always get happy endings in our overcrowded shelter system, but it’s important to celebrate the ones we can save. After being threatened with euthanasia, we were able to extend a lifeline to Cooper (FKA Clipper #A5512829 & #K9KismetCopper) because an AMAZING foster stepped forward. #kismetdankdogcollab

If you’re inspired to help us be a part of the solution and fulfill our mission to dogs in need, apply to foster or make a tax deductible donation today! As a foster-based nonprofit rescue that is 100% volunteer-run, we can’t do what we do without the support of members of the public like you.

In honor of National Volunteer Week, a big thank you goes out to all the volunteers—past and present—who have helped keep this ship afloat. The work we do is far from easy, and, as a 100% volunteer-run organization, we rely on like-minded people who are willing to run towards the fire instead of away from it. You are the helpers in times of crisis and we are deeply grateful.

If you want to help us make a difference in the lives of at-risk dogs, submit your interest through our website at www.k9kismet.org/volunteer or www.k9kismet.org/foster.

Amazing human beings

help us make a difference

Foster

As a foster-based rescue, our primary need is short and long-term fosters. Fostering costs you nothing; we cover all expenses. Whether you’re a seasoned foster who can handle some of our toughest cases, or a first-timer looking to ease into the process, we want to hear from you.

Adopt

By providing a forever home for a dog in rescue, you're helping to free up a foster home, which allows us to help another dog in need. The dogs in our care are fully vaccinated, spayed or neutered (unless medically waived), microchipped, and receive regular wellness exams, preventative treatment, specialty care as needed. If you’re interested in meeting a K9 Kismet pack member, please fill out the adoption application to begin the process.

Panda3

donate

As a 100% volunteer-run organization, your tax-deductible donation goes directly to the dogs in our care. It provides funds for everything from life saving surgeries to ID tags. Every dollar has purpose and is put to work for the dogs we serve. Help us say yes to the next dog in need.
